Courage

The gig is good when you surround yourself with people that inspire and in whose company you enjoy. When you can slow your pace down and enjoy the moments of the day, it's even better.
When your work is something you feel passionate about, that is kick ass. So I'm at 2/3. Can't get too excited about packages. I had my time managing the cafe, but that's another story. This story could be about Maria but it's going to go to our niece, Meghan.

Meghan runs her own place called Lotus Hair Body and Soul in Medford, Oregon. Lotus is a beautiful place, housed in an charming building downtown. Part of the appeal of the decor is the rustic layout of the interior; one wall is the old side of the neighboring brick building. From the street, is a walk-up to a lobby in the second floor, spacious and lined with antique hair dryer chairs. The large space is continually being improved, additions to the spa and salon answer to the vision of its proprietor. Peaceful, nostalgic exotic. Thoreau meets Mad Men in Medford, by way of India.

Meghan moved to Medford not long out of high school. There she met her husband Tony who can build and garden, repair, construct, reconstruct, and plays a mean game of Wii. A union born of friendship and heart but it works as an excellent business plan too; talents befitting a
vision and a business. It took courage for them to invest their savings (let alone their hopes) into their own business. But willing to take the chance to fail, they could do so on their terms. If anyone was going to screw this effort up, it would be them and not subject to the whims of upper management. Learning how to run a business while running the business, and the day to day of managing personnel is no easy frolic. There would be days and nights of feeling overwhelmed, over worked, in deeper than they could stand. Yet, they've succeeded.

Lotus is appreciated in the community, has a loyal following, and nice reviews by the local papers. The staff has grown, and so has the business. Daughter Marley lights up the place with her smile and when she grows up, she's going to be real proud of how tall her parents stand.
We're proud of them too.

  1. Funny how on days when you feel unsure or insecure...or just lose your perspective you can somehow come along something like this. Brings tears to your eyes, and love to your heart. It truly takes a village and you have been part of that, for which I am very grateful.

  2. This is really wonderful. I, too, am in awe of all the hard work Meghan and Tony have put into the place.
